How It Works

Beyond the Wall.  I've been coaching over ten years and consulting over 20 years, and over and over again, I watched as my clients would hit the wall at some stage in their process of manifesting their dreams.  Usually by self-sabotage of some kind.  No matter how determined, or how disciplined they were, something would happen to hold them back.

I became very, very curious.....and this led me to the field of hypnosis.  As a graduate of the Human Motivation Institute, the first accredited hypnotherapy college, I learned about how the mind takes in and acts on information.

Your Subconscious Is Running the Show.  Most of our daily actions are driven by our subconscious mind- meaning we are not conscious of these actions and do them habitually- without even thinking.  Our subconscious mind drives 88% of our actions, with only 12% or so is driven by conscious effort (willpower, discipline and determination).  No wonder it is so difficult to lose those extra pounds.  Why is this?

Children do not possess logic and reasoning up until about the age of eight or so.  Born with only a fear of falling and loud noises, infants learn everything else by identifying things and making associations.  I wonder what this is (a stove)...I think I will touch it (ouch- association of pain with hotness).  Many, many of these associations serve the child well, and others may outwear their welcome.  For example, it may be safe for a child to be never speak up to an overbearing and brutish father, and yet, this same behavior of not speaking up may cause devastation to a career later in life.  Food may become  associated with being loved as a child and lead to a lifetime of health issues caused by excess weight.

Unlike our conscious mind, which protects us by filtering out everything it deems not worthy of attention, our subconscious mind remembers everything.   And, some of these things we remember, but don't remember consciously, no longer serve us, causing self-sabotage.

Hypnosis Allows Access to the Subconscious Mind.
During hypnosis, with the client's permission, the hypnotist creates a hyper- suggestible state by overloading the brain with too much information and the critical faculty of the  conscious mind takes flight, allowing access to the subconscious mind for a limited period of time. All hypnosis is really self-hypnosis because unless the client is willing and ready  to accept a suggestion, it is rejected by the subconscious mind.    Thus, hypnosis is very safe.

There are many things that can be accomplished when the client is in a hypnotic trance.  Direct and/or inferred suggestions may be given to overcome self-sabotage, enhance performance or reduce or eliminate fears....thus replacing past associations and beliefs with new, more empowering beliefs.  Although hypnotists typically work first to remove unwanted symptoms, sometimes deeper work is required to identify the cause of the symptom.  This is always done by asking the subconscious mind permission to proceed in this exploration.

Hypnosis is also a great state in which to practice learning a new skill, giving a speech, taking a test, or anything that requires concentration, focus and ease in the future.

What Does Being In Hypnosis Feel Like?  At the end of a session, most of my clients are so relaxed and comfortable they don't want to leave.  It's a very relaxing, comfortable state.  Contrary to what many people believe, you are not unconscious or asleep when you are in hypnosis (although sometimes when people are tired and become so relaxed, they do fall asleep).  In fact, you are super aware of everything that is happening around you and in you.  It's like super consciousness.   Your conscious mind wanders around a bit, and at times you might not remember what is being said, but most people are totally aware and awake.  And, you can come out of the hypnotic state at any time, simply by opening your eyes and telling yourself to wake up.

How Does Coaching Work with Hypnosis?  Coaching works on a cognitive level, using the conscious mind's gifts of logic and reasoning.  Together, we figure out what you want, what's stopping you, what you've done to get what you want and what you are willing to do to get what you want. We explore these answers together and come up with a plan for taking action.  We identify any beliefs, patterns, thoughts that may be holding you back from accomplishing what you want.  Coaching also provides you with brainstorming, accountability and support with implementation and follow through.

We use hypnosis to reinforce what you want, increase your motivation and confidence, replace any limiting beliefs with more empowering beliefs and eliminate self-sabotage or fears which may be holding you back.  We also use hypnosis to help you discover your life's purpose or true desires, embody success and learn lessons from the past or future to bring back to your plan.  Hypnosis allows the mind-body to align and harmonize your actions, to practice being successful and to accelerate change more easily.

The combination of coaching and hypnosis is a very powerful tool to accelerate success and change beliefs.
